According to Roman mythology, Cupid is the god of desire, love and affection, and it is believed that when hit by Cupid’s arrow you will fall mindlessly in love with the next person you meet.

Well, with a backstory like that it is no surprise the God of Love has been cast as a recognisable character for a number of funny, witty and sometimes just down right cute adverts. In celebration of Valentine’s Day, we’ve put together six of our favourites for your February 14th amusement.

First up we’ve got this Algida Cornetto ad, featuring a futuristic cupid targeting the most unlikely of couples with his cornetto bazooka. What says love like an ice-cream in February?

Next is another naughty Cupid, opting for a more traditional bow and arrow to do his mismatched coupling in this advert for Subway. 

SEAT put some pennies behind cameo number three, which sees the buff ‘Love Machine’ working his magic on an entire street full of people to the seductive chords of ‘yes it’s true’ by the Cashmeres. 

Just as not all heroes wear capes, not all Cupids have wings. In fact, this Cupid only has a Chevrolet, a saucy backing track and a field full of cows looking for love. 

Our next Cupid finds out the hard way that not everyone has a heart – especially tax auditors it seems! 

How many legs does Cupid have? Our final cameo pulls at the heart strings as Cupid Dog uses a Yoga Tablet 2 Pro to get his owners to stop fighting over who’s turn it is to take him for a walk.
